US President Donald Trump said that Greenland should become part of the United States "for international world security." He also announced his intention to take control of the Panama Canal. He said this in his speech to Congress on March 5.

Addressing the Greenlanders, he noted that the United States strongly supports their right to determine their future.

"And if you want it, we welcome you to the United States of America. We need Greenland for national security and even international security, and we are working with everyone involved to try to get it, but we do need it for international world security, and I think one way or another we will get it," Trump said.

He added that the United States will protect Greenland and make it rich.

"And together, we will raise Greenland to heights never before heard of," the US President emphasized.

Trump also spoke in his speech about returning the Panama Canal to US control.

"We will take back the Panama Canal for our use. It was built by Americans for Americans," the American leader emphasized.
