President Donald Trump, during his speech, repeated the false claim that the U.S. has spent $350 billion to support Ukraine's defense, while Europe has provided only $100 billion in aid.

As CNN writes, this is not entirely true, since according to calculations by the Kiel Institute for World Economics, a German think tank that closely tracks aid to Ukraine during the war, the European Union and individual European countries have collectively provided far more military, financial, and humanitarian aid to Ukraine from the beginning of the war until December 2024 (about $263 billion) than the U.S. has provided (about $126 billion).

The publication noted that the U.S. had a slight advantage in one specific category of military aid provided - about $68 billion compared to about $66 billion from Europe. "But even that was nowhere near the gigantic gap Trump described," the publication wrote.

The reporters noted that different totals can be arrived at using different calculation methods, but there is no obvious basis for Trump's "$350 billion" figure. The U.S. government's inspector general overseeing aid to Ukraine reported on his website that the U.S. has allocated nearly $183 billion in aid to Ukraine through December 2024, including about $83 billion actually disbursed — and that includes funding spent in the U.S. or countries other than Ukraine.
