Key Kremlin negotiator Kirill Dmitriev is expected to arrive in Washington this week for talks with US President Donald Trump's administration.

Reuters reports, citing identified sources, that Dmitriev, the head of Russia's sovereign wealth fund and appointed by Russian dictator Putin as a special investment and international economic envoy, will meet with US Special Representative Steve Witkoff.

Another source said that Dmitriev will meet with Witkoff on Wednesday.

According to CNN, Dmitriev and Witkoff will hold talks on strengthening relations between the two countries, as well as ending the war against Ukraine. Since Dmitriev is under US sanctions, CNN reported that the Trump administration has lifted sanctions on the Russian official for the duration of his visit. "His visit will be the first to the United States by a senior Russian official since Russia's invasion of Ukraine and will mark further steps in warming relations between the countries since Trump's return to power," CNN writes.

It is noted that Dmitriev's visit will take place before the meeting between Trump and Putin.

"Trump is becoming increasingly impatient with Moscow's delays in reaching a broader peace agreement on Ukraine... Dmitriev's visit could also reduce tensions," the publication admitted.
