A $1.7 trillion US government funding bill has been unveiled in Congress, which includes, among other things, emergency assistance to Ukraine and NATO allies in the amount of $44.9 billion.
According to Reuters, this will be a super-record $858 billion in military spending for the year, up from last year's $740 billion and also exceeding Biden's request.
Leaders in the Senate and House of Representatives are aiming to pass the bill and send it to President Joe Biden by the end of the week to keep the government out of business.
If the vote drags on, the setback could lead to a months-long standoff between Republicans and Democrats, with the Republicans taking control of the House of Representatives on January 3.
