About 10,300 new graves were found in temporarily occupied Mariupol. Most of them are located in the cemetery in Stary Krym.
It is reported by The Associated Press with reference to these satellite images. Since the beginning of March, a significant expansion of burial sites has been recorded.
Now the total area with graves is more than 51,500 square meters. Agency journalists conducted an investigation using drones. They learned that the Russians were using heavy equipment to dig long trenches. Later they fell asleep.
Now the graves look like earth mounds. Some of them have wooden crosses with names and dates, but mostly they are marked with small tablets with hand-scribbled numbers. It is noted that on some graves there were several numbers at once, which indicates a greater number of remains.
The agency analyzed the available video footage and came to the conclusion that, on average, there is one grave for every six square meters. Journalists also studied data from cemeteries in the villages of Mangush and Vinogradnoye, where similar mass graves have been dug since March.
