Sweden has announced a new package of military aid to Ukraine. It will include infantry fighting vehicles, self-propelled artillery mounts and anti-tank weapons.
As The Local reported, at a press conference on Thursday, January 19, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced fresh deliveries of equipment to Ukraine to protect against Russian aggression. This includes "the first decision to start sending the Archer artillery system to Ukraine." The exact number of self-propelled guns that will receive the APU has not yet been disclosed. Swedish Defense Minister Paul Jonsson asked the country's armed forces to provide a recommendation on the amount of mentioned equipment that is in storage and can be sent to Ukraine.
Recall that Archer is one of the best representatives in its niche. This self-propelled artillery mount fires at a distance of up to 60 kilometers, fires 21 rounds in 2.5 minutes, deploys and collapses in 30 seconds.
The fresh military equipment package also includes 50 CV-90 armored vehicles and NLAW man-portable anti-tank systems. Kristersson commented on the supplies: "Military support is crucial, it can determine who will take the lead this winter [at the front]."
