The mayor of Novaya Kakhovka, Vladimir Kovalenko, said that the Russians continue to worsen the situation around the Kakhovka reservoir. Due to the blown-up sandors at the hydroelectric power station, the water level in the reservoir is falling, and in the Dnieper itself it is rising.

“The Russians blew up the sandors at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. Today, the level of water that is discharged into the Dnieper River is very high. This leads to the fact that the Kakhovka reservoir becomes shallow, and the water level in the Dnieper rises sharply. Dozens of kilometers of dry banks of the Kakhovka reservoir are already visible. Therefore, it is now very difficult to imagine the consequences of these actions of the Russians, if this is not stopped," Kovalenko said in an interview with Espresso.

According to the head of the city temporarily occupied by Russians, the consequences are hard to imagine. However, such actions can quite realistically cause an ecocatastrophe.

"The lower part of the Dnieper, where Kakhovka is located, is, on the contrary, full-flowing. Since the water from the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station is constantly discharged. But the Kakhovka Sea is now becoming shallower every day. It is difficult to imagine the consequences. Since I do not know all the technical issues regarding the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. However, what As for the Kherson region, such actions of the Russians can lead to an environmental catastrophe," Kovalenko added.
