Norway will donate eight Leopard 2 main battle tanks and up to four special purpose tanks to Ukraine.
According to the Norwegian government, funds are also being set aside for ammunition and spare parts.
"It's been almost a year since Russia's attack on Ukraine. It's been a terrible year with war, war crimes, destruction and killing on a scale we haven't seen since World War II. As support for the freedom struggle has become more decisive than before, we decided to donate eight tanks and up to four special purpose tanks to Ukraine. Several other allies have also decided to donate tanks," Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stere said.
As the Minister of Defense of the Kingdom of Norway, Bjorn Arild Gram, said, the war in Ukraine is approaching a critical phase and Ukrainians depend on timely and substantial support.
"We also contribute to the education and training of Ukrainian tank crews in Poland, together with other allied countries. The donation is an important and quite necessary contribution," Gram added.
