Latvia recalls border guards from holidays because of Belarus

The State Border Guard Service of Latvia recalls its employees from vacation to strengthen the border with Belarus. This is stated in the official statement of the service.
From Tuesday, August 15, they will mobilize additional border detachments to strengthen the protection of the external state border. "The decision was made due to a sharp increase in the hybrid threat on the Latvian-Belarusian border over the past day, when 96 attempts to illegally cross the border were detected, as well as the increased involvement of the Belarusian authorities in organizing the flow of illegal immigrants and information about the risk, indicating a possible increase in the hybrid threat ", the message says.
The annual vacation of employees of the State Border Service was suspended, and those who had already rested were recalled. They also requested additional support from the national armed forces and police.
