Before the start of a full-scale invasion, Russia, under the pretext of exercises, brought six ships into the Black Sea through the Bosphorus Strait, increasing their number to 13.
Speaker of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Dmitry Pletenchuk told LIGA.net that over the past year and a half, the Ukrainian army has hit at least five large landing ships of the Russian Navy. In total, the enemy had eight of these craft left.
The Defense Forces were the first to destroy the Russian Airborne Command "Saratov"; this happened on March 24, 2022 in the port of temporarily occupied Berdyansk. Then the large landing ships Caesar Kunikov and Novocherkassk were also damaged.
On August 4, naval drones of the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked Novorossiysk and destroyed the Olenegorsk Miner airborne complex. Another Russian large landing ship was undergoing repairs and was likely destroyed, too, Pletenchuk said.
“That is, at least five units. This leaves eight large landing ships, but this information requires clarification as of now, maybe more,” added the speaker of the Ukrainian Navy.
Defense Express naval expert, retired captain 1st rank Vladimir Zablotsky noted that of the eight indicated airborne ships, two are unsuitable for use and do not go to sea because they are very old.
