US President Joe Biden said that the first American Abrams tanks will arrive in Ukraine next week.
Biden, during a meeting with Zelensky, announced a new aid package for Ukraine, which will include more artillery, ammunition and anti-tank weapons, CNN reports.
Speaking about the aid announced today, Biden detailed military support for Ukraine in its ongoing fight against Russian invasion.
“Today I approved the next tranche of American security assistance to Ukraine, including more artillery, more ammunition, more anti-tank weapons, and next week the first American Abrams tanks will be delivered to Ukraine,” Biden said in an expanded bilateral message.
Biden also offered harsh assessments of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who he said mistakenly believed he could crush support for Ukraine in a matter of months.
"We are also focused on strengthening Ukraine's air defense capabilities to protect the critical infrastructure that provides warmth and light on the coldest and darkest days of the year," he added.
Biden expressed an optimistic assessment of American support for the country in repelling Russian troops.
