The Russian Federation has made its “old” Be-12 MAIL amphibian aircraft, created during Soviet times in the 1950s, a key asset in military operations in the Black Sea.
Based on British intelligence data, in recent weeks the Russian Army has pinned its hopes on gaining an advantage in the Black Sea through the naval aviation of the Black Sea Fleet.
Particular attention is paid to maritime patrol operations. Probably, in this way the Russian Federation is trying to prevent drone attacks on its ships and facilities.
"The key Russian asset in these operations is the Be-12 MAIL amphibious aircraft, developed in the 1950s, which flies from bases in occupied Crimea," British intelligence says.
The Russian Federation also uses combat aircraft of the Su-24 type (we are talking about their classifications Fencer and Flanker) for strike operations in water areas. The Russian army used this type of aircraft during the recent attack on Snake Island, which is now controlled by Ukraine.
It is noted that the Russian Federation plans to redeploy more naval forces to Novorossiysk in order to deter attacks on Sevastopol.
“Given the threats to Sevastopol, it is likely that more naval forces will be redeployed to Novorossiysk,” the statement said.
