On the night of October 5, the Russians carried out another massive attack on Ukraine using Shahed attack UAVs. In the south alone, several dozen of them were destroyed, said Natalya Gumenyuk, head of the Joint Coordination Press Center of the Southern Defense Forces.
“Indeed, the night was again alarming. There was combat work, intense combat work: both counter-battery on the front line and the Air Defense Forces in more rear regions. And there are already preliminary results - 24 Shaheds were destroyed in our area of responsibility, these are both the southern and south-eastern regions, where the enemy sent them. We will summarize and tell you the final results. But the fact itself is that the terror of the regions continues, which can supply forces and support the front-line territories,” she noted on the telethon.
Natalya Gumenyuk also noted that now the enemy launches most of the Shaheds from the eastern coast of the Sea of Azov or from the Crimean Peninsula, so they have to be “met” by air defense forces in the southern regions of Ukraine.
Updated (7:35): During a massive night attack, the Russian occupiers used 29 attack UAVs of the Shahed-136/131 type, according to the report of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“Our air defense destroyed 24 enemy Shaheds,” noted the General Staff.
Updated (7:55): The Air Force clarified that the enemy launched attack UAVs from the southern direction (Cape Chauda Crimea). "Shaheds" were shot down within the Odessa, Nikolaev and Kirovograd regions.
The Southern Defense Forces noted that most of the enemy kamikaze drones were eliminated in the Nikolaev region. “In our area of responsibility, 24 UAVs were destroyed: 10 over the Mykolaiv region, 9 over the Kirovograd region, 5 over the Odessa region,” the message says.
