In a heartwarming ceremony, the Lviv State Music School, named after the legendary soprano Solomiya Krushelnytska, unveiled a concert hall bearing the name of Myroslav Skoryk. Myroslav Skoryk, who attended the school in the late 1940s, later returned to Lviv and became a prominent composer and educator. The school decided to name the chamber hall after him in recognition of his contributions.
Myroslav Skoryk had a close connection to the school, being both a former student and a dedicated supporter. His family was exiled to Siberia, but he eventually returned to Lviv, where he joined the conservatory and continued to show great interest in the school and its talented students. Furthermore, Skoryk was the great-nephew of the famous Solomiya Krushelnytska, who has been a patron of the educational institution.
Levko Zakopets, the director of the Lviv State Music School, emphasized the importance of this new concert hall, saying, "Today, we have opened the Myroslav Skoryk concert hall so that our children can perform in excellent conditions." The chamber hall will provide young musicians with a venue to showcase their talents and continue the rich musical tradition of the region.
The event was attended by Adrian Skoryk, the composer's widow, and Rostyslav Karandiyev, the acting Minister of Culture and Information Policy in Ukraine. Karandiyev praised the invaluable musical legacy left by Myroslav Skoryk and stressed the responsibility of music enthusiasts and patriots to carry on his work by promoting Ukrainian music on the world stage.
The ceremony featured a special concert with performances by students of the school, who presented some of Myroslav Skoryk's most beloved compositions, including "Melody," "Folk Dance," "Operetta," "Humorous Play," "Burlesque" from Violin Sonata No. 2, "Prelude and Fugue in C Major," "In the Forest," "Kolomyjka," "Waltz" from Partita No. 5, "Spanish Dance," and "Burlesque."
The Lviv State Music School provides specialized musical and comprehensive secondary education to 350 students. Over the years, the school has nurtured and educated notable artists, including Taras Chubay, Lesya Horova, Olesya Kyrychuk, Zoryana Kushpler, Natalia Kovalova, and many other talented performers.
This event signifies the dedication of the Lviv State Music School to preserving and promoting the rich musical heritage of Ukraine and nurturing the next generation of musical talents.
