The suspect in the Brussels terror attack, which shook the city, has tragically passed away. The 45-year-old Tunisian individual, who was suspected of killing two Swedish football enthusiasts in Brussels, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday while in police custody.
Belgium's Minister of the Interior, Annelies Verlinden, confirmed the identity of the attacker and his demise. She stated, "The perpetrator of the Brussels terror attack has been identified, and he is deceased." According to various reports, the assailant suffered injuries to his chest and died shortly after receiving medical treatment.
Earlier, Verlinden had indicated that it was possible the suspect had accomplices.
As previously reported, the incident occurred when a man wearing a yellow fluorescent vest and a white construction helmet opened fire in the center of Brussels. Two Swedish football fans lost their lives, and a taxi driver was injured, though his condition is stable.
The identified individual, Abdelasalam L., 45 years old, had been residing in one of Brussels' neighborhoods. According to numerous sources, he was in Belgium illegally and had previously faced charges in Tunisia related to terrorism-related activities.
Following the shooting, Belgian authorities raised the country's terrorist threat level to its highest point. This tragic incident continues to be a matter of great concern as the investigation unfolds.
