King Abdullah II of Jordan has expressed deep concerns about the deteriorating situation in the Middle East, emphasizing the real risk of an expanded conflict. He highlighted that this year has already witnessed the bloodiest clashes between Israel and Palestine in the last decade. King Abdullah warned that the situation could become even more dire if all forms of violence are not stopped and the conflict is not resolved. However, he did not mention the role of Hamas in his statement.
The monarch stated that the recurring cycles of violence must be prevented. He underlined that as long as Israelis, Palestinians, and Arabs cannot find common ground, these destructive cycles will persist. King Abdullah stressed the necessity of a political solution based on the principle of two states, as the only way to ensure a safe and stable region.
Abdullah regards the prevention of a humanitarian crisis in Gaza as a moral imperative. However, he also made it clear that accepting Palestinian refugees in Jordan and Egypt is a "red line." He firmly stated that there would be no acceptance of refugees in Jordan and Egypt. He believes that this humanitarian issue should be resolved within the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
