Historic 19th-century Cultural Building in Zhittomyr Region Burns Down

The Grokholsky-Tereshchenko estate, a historical architectural gem from the late 1800s, was engulfed in flames on the night of October 17, 2023. This building, which served as a center of culture, has now been reduced to ashes. As of 23:21, efforts to extinguish the fire are still ongoing.
Local tour guide Taras Konovalov, who had conducted tours of the cultural building earlier in the day, shared a video of the blazing structure on his Facebook page. He described the loss, emphasizing that the wooden ceilings, the roof, and the walls, apart from their cladding, were all original from the late 19th century.
It's important to note that the Grokholsky-Tereshchenko estate had been at the center of a legal dispute. The Economic Court of Zhittomyr Region had ruled to return the property to the state from the ownership of the Zhittomyr Eparchy of the UOC (MP).
