Oksana Zabuzhko was officially recognized as a Doctor Honoris Causa by Lviv National University for her exceptional contributions to Ukrainian literature and her active role in cultural diplomacy. The university community highly values her artistic work and her public engagement.
The award was presented to Zabuzhko by the rector of Ivan Franko Lviv National University, Volodymyr Melnyk. He stated, "Honorary doctors of the university include distinguished figures in culture, scholars, and politicians. Today, we welcome the prominent Ukrainian writer and philosopher and present her with a diploma for her active public and political activity, her remarkable merits in the advancement of education, science, culture, and her significant contribution to the development of the Ukrainian state and support for the university."
It is noted that the university community holds Zabuzhko's creative work and public engagement in high regard.
Zabuzhko expressed her deep honor and privilege to become a part of the academic community of Lviv National University, where her parents studied over 70 years ago.
Zabuzhko is a recipient of both national and international awards, a Fulbright scholar, a teacher of Ukrainian studies at Harvard and Pittsburgh universities, and a prominent advocate for Ukraine on the international stage. Her texts have been adapted by numerous theaters in Ukraine, Europe, and North America.
