Lviv city plans to mark 20 mosaic artworks over the next few days, with the remaining to be marked by the beginning of the next year. The "Blue Shield" emblem, an international heritage symbol, will be affixed to these mosaics, emphasizing their cultural significance. This initiative aims to raise awareness among building owners with mosaic art and the general public about the value of these artistic creations.

Natalia Alekseeva, the acting head of the Department for the Protection of Historical Heritage, revealed that several mosaic artworks, including those on Medova Pechera, Promyslova, and Kerchenska streets, have already been marked. The list of valuable mosaics was formulated by the city council in 2019. However, changes in ownership and concerns about preserving these artworks were not prioritized until recently.

To enhance awareness of the importance and preservation of these mosaics as cultural heritage objects, Lviv has chosen to mark them with the "Blue Shield" emblem. This international symbol is recognized and is expected to safeguard these artworks from potential vandalism. Building owners with mosaics are being notified about the marking process, and permission is required if the mosaics are located indoors.

As of today, 81 mosaic artworks located on small architectural forms, facades, and interiors of buildings have been included in the cultural heritage list. In October, the Lviv municipal council reported the destruction of a unique mosaic by artist Ivan Soika on Volodymyra Velykoho Street 2, seeking police intervention due to its protective status.
