The United States House of Representatives has approved a government funding bill to avoid a shutdown.

According to CNN, new Speaker Mike Johnson's proposal was approved on a bipartisan basis: 336 votes (209 of them Democrats) to 95 (93 Republicans and two Democrats). The bill does not provide additional assistance for Ukraine or Israel.

"The two-phase plan extends funding through January 19 for priority areas including military construction, veterans affairs, transportation, housing and the Department of Energy. The rest of the government - everything not covered by the first step - will be funded until February 2," it said.

State funding ends on November 17, by which time the new bill must be approved by the Senate.

A White House official told reporters that President Joe Biden is willing to sign the government funding bill if it passes the Senate. "If it passes the Senate, the President will sign this continuing resolution, which maintains current funding levels and does not contain harmful policy amendments," the official said.
