Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in the United States for the first time in six years. He is scheduled to meet with US President Joe Biden in San Francisco.
Reuters writes that the Chinese leader arrived on an Air China plane. He was met by US officials, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and US Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns.
The main event on Xi Jinping's agenda will be a meeting with Biden, during which the United States will try to soften relations between the countries, as well as the summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum.
In turn, the Voice of America writes that China could play a role in supporting Ukraine and helping end the war.
“The conversation has not yet taken place, and I don’t want to get ahead of myself. I think they will certainly talk about what is happening in Ukraine and the president will make it clear that we will continue to support Ukraine against Russian aggression,” said the strategic coordinator US National Security Council communications John Kirby.
He said Washington would "welcome" opportunities for China to be useful in helping Israel.
