Parliament's Decision:

In a significant political development, the lower house of the Spanish Parliament voted in favor of Pedro Sanchez's reappointment as the Prime Minister. The voting outcome saw 179 members supporting Sanchez's re-election, while 171 voted against, with no abstentions. Notably, members of the conservative People's Party, the far-right Vox party, and the lone legislator of the Navarre People's Union opposed the re-election.

Coalition Support:

The Left-Radical Union partner of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE), known as Sumar, along with Catalan parties Junts and ERC, Basque parties PNV, EH Bildu, BNG, and the Canarian Coalition, extended their support for Sanchez's candidacy. PSOE had previously secured agreements with several regional parties to ensure their support, including contentious issues such as the amnesty bill for Catalan separatists, leading to protests across Spain.

International Reaction:

Ukraine's President, Volodymyr Zelensky, congratulated Pedro Sanchez on his re-election as Spain's Prime Minister. Zelensky expressed his readiness to collaborate on strengthening both nations, European integration for Ukraine into the EU and NATO.

Public Discontent:

In October, leaders of right-wing forces in Spain criticized plans for amnesty for Catalan separatists in exchange for supporting the new left-wing government. On November 12, tens of thousands of people in Madrid and other major Spanish cities protested against acting Prime Minister Sanchez's plans to grant amnesty to hundreds of Catalan separatists involved in the unsuccessful attempt to gain independence.
