Wizz Air, the Hungarian low-cost carrier, plans to resume flights to Moldova from December onward, reinstating connections between Chisinau and Rome, Chisinau and Milan, and Chisinau and London. This decision comes after a hiatus in operations since March due to security concerns stemming from Russia's actions in Ukraine.
According to reports by TV8, Moldova's Prime Minister Dorin Recean announced the resumption of these flights, highlighting the connections that will be reinstated by Wizz Air. The company had canceled all flights to and from Chisinau since March 14, citing recent events in Moldova and a high, albeit indirect, risk in the country's airspace.
Moreover, recent developments in Chisinau's airport have seen the introduction of new airlines offering flights to Tel Aviv, Athens, and Baku. Additionally, existing companies operating in the Moldovan aviation market have concluded their operations.
Wizz Air, which previously announced the closure of its base in Moldova in October 2022 due to Russian missile attacks on Ukraine, extended its flights from Chisinau until November 30, 2022. During this period, flights continued to Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
