President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has raised the question of whether the Philippines should reconsider its membership in the ICC, and this matter is currently under review. President Marcos stated, "There is also the question of whether we should return to the fold of the ICC, so it is being studied again. We will continue to examine this and see what options we have." He acknowledged that issues related to jurisdiction and sovereignty remain fundamental challenges for the Philippines.

The Philippines withdrew from the ICC in 2019, following doubts raised by then-President Rodrigo Duterte about the ICC's authority to investigate the anti-drug campaign, during which thousands of people were killed. The current reconsideration of ICC membership brings forth the need to address these fundamental issues.

President Marcos emphasized, "Now, if we can resolve these issues, it will be something else, but these are fundamental questions." The debate over rejoining the ICC reflects the ongoing struggle between the pursuit of justice on an international level and concerns about national sovereignty.

This development signifies a potential shift in the Philippines' stance towards international justice, and the outcome of these deliberations will undoubtedly shape the country's future engagement with the ICC.
