Moscow "persuaded" Iran to purchase three types of attack aircraft - the Su-35 fighter, the Mi-28 attack helicopter and the Yak-130 training aircraft.
The fact of the deal was confirmed by Iran's Deputy Minister of War, General Mahdi Farahi. The Iranian Air Force is planning to equip its fleet with the mentioned types of aircraft, Tasnim notes.
“These three modern military aircraft will definitely be at Iran’s disposal, and this process is currently underway,” the official said.
Russia and Iran probably signed a corresponding agreement before September 2023, since in the corresponding month the Iranian Air Force already received the first Yak-130 training aircraft, the publication mentions.
At the moment, the range of attack aircraft at the disposal of the Iranian Air Force is very meager. It numbers only a couple of dozen aircraft, including outdated American equipment acquired before the Islamic Revolution of 1979.
The Iranian Air Force also boasts a pair of Russian-made MiG-29 fighters, which Tehran purchased back in the 90s.
The media emphasizes that in recent years Tehran has not been able to acquire a single modern fighter. In 2018, Iran tried to copy the American F-5 (an aircraft model that the United States began making in the 1960s) by offering its own equivalent, the so-called Kowsar fighter.
