Ukraine Takes the Lead in Environmental Safety at UN COP28
From November 30 to December 12, 2023, the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) will be held in Dubai, featuring Ukraine's pavilion with three thematic blocks: "Kakhovka," "Consequences," and "Recovery." The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine underscores that the pavilion aims to showcase the extent of environmental damage caused by the war and propose ways to prevent an ecosystem crisis that affects the global balance.
The theme of the Ukrainian pavilion is based on the 8th point of President Volodymyr Zelensky's Peace Formula, highlighting a particular emphasis on environmental security. The pavilion's exposition consists of three key segments, each contributing to the overall efforts of natural resource restoration: "Kakhovka," "Consequences," and "Recovery."
At COP28, Ukraine intends to advocate for the Environmental Declaration and continue the international dialogue on the Global Platform for the Assessment of War Damage, as announced by the Ukrainian President during COP27. Ruslan Strilets, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, expresses hope for even closer collaboration among partners to support Ukraine in realizing its green future.
Special attention is given to the issue of environmental damage caused by Russia's military actions. Ukraine has signed a memorandum of understanding with the international consulting company PricewaterhouseCoopers to aid in the investigation and assessment of environmental damage resulting from Russia's military aggression.
The ecological component of national security becomes a key aspect of Ukraine's strategy, and at COP28, the country aims to draw global attention to the urgent problems it faces. It is emphasized that support from international partners, such as PricewaterhouseCoopers, is a crucial step in addressing environmental challenges and strengthening Ukraine's position in the global community.
The semantic blocks of "Kakhovka," "Consequences," and "Recovery" serve not only as instruments for an informational campaign but also as a platform for exchanging experiences and best practices in the field of environmental safety. Ukraine is actively seeking extensive interaction with the global community at COP28, fortifying its position in the pursuit of a green future and ensuring environmental stability for future generations.
