Transport News: Opening of Border Crossing for Empty Trucks between Ukraine and Poland
Today, on December 3, 2023, Deputy Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine and Minister for Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure Development, Oleksandr Kubrakov, announced a significant event on the Ukraine-Poland border. The Uhryniv-Dołhobyczow border crossing, located on the Ukrainian-Polish border, will now be open for the movement of empty trucks, offering unique advantages for carriers.
Collaboration between the Ministry of Infrastructure of Poland, Lublin Voivodeship, and the support of the European Commission (Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport - DG MOVE) enabled the realization of this crucial step. The border crossing will now accommodate more than 100 trucks daily, alleviating pressure at the border and improving transportation infrastructure.
According to Kubrakov's statement, starting from Monday, December 4, empty trucks weighing 7.5 tonnes or more can commence their movement through this border crossing. This decision aims to expedite transportation, eliminating queues and simplifying border crossing procedures. The border crossing will operate in a test mode, and there is no need for pre-registration in the queue.
This event marks the first in a series of measures to unlock the border, reduce queues, and enhance the capacity of the Ukrainian-Polish border. Kubrakov emphasized that this initiative will improve the border situation, reducing waiting times and facilitating the movement of trucks, which, in turn, will have a positive impact on trade and the overall economies of both countries.
The experimental opening of Uhryniv-Dołhobyczow creates a promising outlook for the logistics industry and businesses in the region. It is anticipated that the new regime will reduce delays and optimize the flow of goods, crucial for many enterprises involved in cross-border transportation.
Furthermore, this event carries symbolic significance in the context of Ukrainian-Polish relations, reflecting their commitment to joint problem-solving. The operation of the Uhryniv-Dołhobyczow border crossing in a test mode underscores the willingness of both sides to collaborate in achieving common goals, such as improving infrastructure and fostering regional development.
Stay tuned for updates, as the opening of this border crossing may lead to additional initiatives and changes in transport policy on the Ukrainian-Polish border.
