President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky visited wounded Ukrainian defenders in one of the Kyiv hospitals. This was reported on the website of the head of state. In particular, on the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the President visited Ukrainian defenders in the hospital.
Zelensky talked with the soldiers about their combat journey, well-being, needs and conditions of treatment, and also presented them with awards. At the same time, the head of state thanked the soldiers for their service and for protecting Ukraine.
“Gratitude from all of us, from the entire Ukrainian people, for your heroism,” the president emphasized.
As stated in a statement from the presidential press service, during Zelensky’s visit to one of the capital’s hospitals, junior sergeant Valery Kucherenko was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine. Zelensky presented him with the Order of the Golden Star.
In this regard, it is said that in October 2023, the junior sergeant led an assault group to capture an enemy position in the Luhansk region. Under heavy enemy fire, Valery Kucherenko destroyed an enemy firing point with hand grenades and was the first to enter the position, where he neutralized five invaders with a machine gun. However, as a result of the explosion of an enemy grenade, he himself received severe shrapnel wounds to all extremities. He was evacuated from the battlefield. Due to the wound, Valery lost his arms. Now the defender is preparing to install bionic prostheses.
“A speedy recovery. You are a hero. In Ukraine, no one forgets such heroes. Our state rests on such shoulders,” Zelensky said during a conversation with Valery and his wife Veronica.
The President also awarded the Order of Courage, II and III degrees, to eight fighters. In addition, he got acquainted with the work of the urology clinic, where he was told about the operational capabilities that the clinic received thanks to the new contact multifunctional laser lithotripter. At the detoxification center, the head of state was shown the hemodialysis room.
Zelensky spoke with the medical staff of the institution. He thanked the doctors for saving the lives of the military and helping the defenders recover. The President presented the doctors with the Order of Princess Olga III degree and the Order of Daniil Galitsky.
“I want to thank you on behalf of the thousands of people whose lives you saved with your work. I spoke with the guys today. Some are smiling, some want to return to the front again. But the most important thing is that you brought them back to life. Thank you,” Zelensky emphasized.
