The Russian Federation is trying to improve Iranian-made attack drones when carrying out attacks on targets in Ukraine. This was reported by the British Ministry of Defense on the X network (Twitter), citing intelligence data.
“Since mid-2023, Russia has almost certainly supplemented Iranian-supplied Shahed unilateral attack drones with similar weapons produced in factories in Russia,” the intelligence report said.
In particular, Russia is now trying to improve the designs of assault drones based on operational experience.
"In late November 2023, the downed drone was reportedly equipped with a Ukrainian SIM card and 4G modem. It is believed to be a Russian improvised modification to improve real-time targeting using mobile phone towers to reduce dependence on satellite navigation," - the message notes.
In addition, according to intelligence, there is a real possibility that this is an attempt to weaken Ukrainian electronic warfare capabilities.
However, some other drones manufactured in the Russian Federation were painted black to make it more difficult to visually identify drones at night.
Intelligence reports that Russia is increasingly using drones during major raids to overload the Ukrainian air defense system. “However, Ukraine continues to successfully neutralize most types of weapons that arrive,” intelligence notes.
