Celebrating Tradition and Skovoroda's Legacy
The VIII Theater Festival DREVO, dedicated to the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, St. Nicholas' Day, and Skovoroda's legacy, marked the culmination of the year and the 301st anniversary of his birth. The festival, a blend of theater, music, dance, and spoken word, showcased individuals fostering living traditions in various art forms.
Cultural Reverence on Stage
The performance "Birds' Conversation" resonated with Skovoroda's philosophical musings and excerpts from "The Garden of Divine Songs." Traditional Ukrainian and European baroque music, dances, chants, and ancient spiritual melodies of Ukraine echoed through the play, embodying the essence of the nation's heritage.
Artistry and Innovation in Costume Design
Notably, the costumes for the play were meticulously crafted by Oksana Karavanska, renowned for her reinterpretation of traditional Ukrainian attire and avant-garde designs, adding a unique visual dimension to the performance.
Global Recognition and Support
Since its inception in 2016, the festival has drawn participants worldwide representing diverse cultural traditions. Supported by the Stabilization Fund for Culture and Education 2023, the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany, and the Goethe-Institut, the event has welcomed artists, ensembles, and directors from countries like Poland, Corsica, Portugal, and France.
