Battles for Avdiivka: the expert outlined the enormous importance of the city’s defense

Military expert Roman Svitan explained why it is important for the Ukrainian Armed Forces to defend Avdiivka in the Donetsk region.
As he noted, if Ukrainian fighters leave Avdiivka, this will bring nothing to the Russians except “political effect.”
“They need some kind of positive effect in order to get started in the information flow, to start an election campaign... From a military point of view, there is no strategic task there, it will not bring strategic success... The maximum that this can bring is to move the front line away from Donetsk by 5-10 kilometers depending on where they plan to go," Svitan said.
At the same time, the expert outlined the importance of defending Avdiivka:
“Understanding the political effect that Putin is trying to get for himself, understanding the excellent position of our defensive lines in the Avdievka area, and understanding that Avdiivka can be a springboard for the liberation of Donetsk, Yasinovataya and Makeyevka, we do not plan to leave it. We have decided to strengthen it.”
