Russia has hit a “ceiling” regarding missile production volumes and is actively increasing the production of unmanned aerial vehicles. Defense Express writes about this, analyzing the situation in these sectors of the Russian military-industrial complex.
Based on Ukrainian intelligence data regarding missile production volumes in Russia, the publication states that according to some models, the Russians have not been able to significantly increase their figures since the beginning of the year. For example, long-range aircraft cruise missiles Kh-101 are produced at the level of 30-35 units per month, as was the case back in May. But for other missiles, growth is still continuing.
“It is precisely with the X-101 that the Russians have hit a kind of “capability ceiling,” while, for example, the pace of production of ballistic missiles for the Iskander OTRK has increased 6 times, or from 5 units per month (as of May 2023) to 30 units per month (during August – October 2023),” writes Defense Express.
Analyzing the situation with the X-101 missiles, journalists drew attention to the fact that next to the Raduga design bureau, which produces them, a new plant for the production of drones for the Russian Army unexpectedly “grew up” in less than a year. But the rocket plant remained as it was.
The authors of the publication suggest that the Russians decided to increase missile production only by optimizing and improving technological processes at existing facilities without building new lines. And the aggressor seems to be directing its main efforts to drones.
“The Russian Federation is really devoting a large amount of resources specifically to organizing the production of UAVs, and this applies to both the public and private sectors. At the same time, in the long-range missile production segment, the Russians are continuing to try to go the intensive route, that is, by improving operational efficiency,” – concludes Defense Express.
