“We are ready to compromise”: Danilov on Ukraine’s accession to the EU

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Alexei Danilov said that Ukraine is ready for compromises in order to achieve the big goal of becoming a member of the European Union.
He is convinced that if Ukraine fulfills the EU requirements in a short time, the European Community will not be against our accession, Ukrainian Radio reports.
“There must be a democratic free country where people are respected, their rights, laws, norms and rules, which are the same for everyone. Then we will very quickly fulfill the criteria that exist in the EU 100%,” Danilov said.
He is confident that overcoming corruption is our homework.
“We must resolve this issue once and for all. Moreover, the president also has a great desire to put an end to the issue of corruption. As for Orban’s statement, you heard the statement of our Deputy Prime Minister Stefanishina, who is directly involved in this issue. We are ready make certain compromises on this issue in order to achieve the big goal and be members of the EU. There is nothing complicated there and I don’t think that it will be difficult for us. The relevant regulations have already been prepared. Moreover, I think they will definitely will be adopted so that Hungary does not speculate on certain things,” Danilov noted.
In his opinion, how long it will take Ukraine to join the EU depends only on us.
“If we are ready in a short period of time, I think the EU will not hesitate to accept us as members. We need to meet the criteria of the European Union, this must be understood. We are talking about the joint work of our entire Ukrainian community both within the country and abroad. This is our common task and if someone thinks that this should be done by an individual or an institution, and everyone else will watch - no, it doesn’t work like that. We need to meet all the criteria and understand that the radical transformation of Soviet Ukraine, in which we "We continue to live today, must happen. There must be a democratic free country where people are respected, their rights, laws, norms and rules, which are the same for everyone. Then we will very quickly fulfill the criteria that exist in the EU 100%," - he added.
