Ukraine's support has led to a dramatic increase in the technological capabilities of the British military, thanks to captured Russian equipment and observations of Ukrainians on the battlefield. This was stated by the Minister of Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs of the Kingdom James Hippy, the American military portal Defense One reports.
According to him, experience and testing during the fighting in Ukraine led to an "incredible acceleration of Western military capabilities." He also noted that Britain is learning from information shared by Ukraine, including data obtained from broken Russian equipment. At the same time, the country is also closely watching how the supplied British weapons and equipment - the most modern prototypes, as well as standard kit - perform on Ukrainian battlefields.
"You learn very quickly what works and what doesn't. The pace of defense innovation in NATO countries is what you would expect during a war. Some British companies are using reports from the Ukrainian military to improve their products much faster than would be possible under others." circumstances," Hippie emphasized.
He added that battlefield observations are even changing the British military's overall thinking about how wars might be fought in the future. In particular, one of the key lessons is that modern armies must move away from perfectly designed but easily destroyed weapons and focus instead on cheaper weapons, the sheer number and variety of which can overwhelm an adversary's decision-making ability.
"You don't need to spend billions of pounds of taxpayers' money on everything that is the most sophisticated weapon imaginable," the British official concluded.
