The Ministry of Economy is addressing the complex challenges of the Ukrainian labor market, considering the impact of war and the subsequent rebuilding phase. With 6.2 million Ukrainians abroad, 5 million internally displaced, and an anticipated influx of veterans and disabled individuals post-war, the ministry is devising specialized solutions for the evolving job market. One key initiative involves creating a state order in the education sector based on comprehensive analysis and labor market forecasts.
Previously, market analysis relied on projected sector growth. However, in the current situation, the luxury of such forecasts is absent. The ministry now utilizes macro forecasts, the Ukraine Facility Plan, employer surveys, and international organizations, including the International Labor Organization, to predict the most in-demand professions in the future.
Over the next 6-10 years, Ukraine will primarily require engineers and technical specialists for the restoration of the defense-industrial complex and the development of domestic military technologies. Additionally, the country will need military experts of all specialties, STEM graduates, medical professionals, including rehabilitators and psychologists.
Specialists in the energy sector will also be essential for implementing green transition projects, along with experts in public policy and governance for shaping state administration. The construction industry will see a demand for architects, project engineers, and more, according to the Deputy Minister.
As reported by the National Bank of Ukraine, there is a gradual increase in employment levels due to a growing demand for labor. However, the labor market situation remains complex, with slow unemployment reduction and difficulties in finding qualified workers.
