Participants in the excursion will explore the captivating narrative of how the Ottoman Empire conquered a significant part of Hungary, including its capital. Together, they will search for the heart of Sultan Suleiman and discover the remarkable journey of Roxolana, a Ukrainian woman who rose from being a priest's daughter to a revered sultana in the 16th century. The tour promises insights into her background, the circumstances of her capture by the sultan, her place in history, and the personal love story recounted in her correspondence with the ruler.
The literary journey also includes a visit to Matthias Church, which became the main mosque in Buda during the Ottoman Empire. Participants will learn about the church's construction history, significant historical events associated with it, admire its rich decorations, and hear stories about its periods of construction, prosperity, and the times when Matthias Church served as the main mosque in Buda.
Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to explore the history of the Fisherman's Bastion, witness monuments to Saint Stephen, Saint George, and Janos Hunyadi, marvel at architectural landmarks, and hear legends and stories about ancient Buda.
The duration of the literary stroll is approximately 2 to 2.5 hours, and the language of the event is Ukrainian. The excursion is free of charge and commences on November 18th at 13:00, starting from Szentháromság tér, near Matthias Church in Budapest.
