At the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant, a leak of borated water occurred from the coolant of the primary circuit of the fifth power unit. The IAEA reports this.
Experts say that boron was found in the secondary cooling circuit of one of the steam generators of reactor unit No. 5. This unit is currently in a "hot shutdown" state.
“Borated water is used in the primary coolant to maintain nuclear safety,” the statement said.
However, after an inspection, it became known that the boron content in the second cooling circuit remains within normal limits. No radioactivity was found there either.
Despite the leak, the Russians, who have controlled the plant since the start of the full-scale invasion, have decided to continue to keep Unit 5 in "hot shutdown" mode, which will be re-evaluated once all the boilers used to heat the city are operational in the temporarily occupied Energodar.
