The Ukrainian bridgehead on the left bank of the Dnieper potentially opens the way to Crimea, but success will depend on two factors - the reaction of the Russians to the expansion of the bridgehead and the availability of reserves from the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This was stated by military expert Roman Svitan.
He noted that the bridgehead on the left bank was created by marine units that were trained in Great Britain. Now linear infantry units have already been involved in expanding and strengthening the bridgehead. According to Svitan, now they are trying to expand the “tactical” bridgehead to the “operational” level.
“Now we are in the middle of this path. Now there is already advance up to 8 km from the coast. And the operational bridgehead should be at least 15 kilometers in order to rebuild engineering structures, if a decision is made, to transfer heavy equipment to the left bank. This should there will be pontoon crossings, landing stages for receiving barges. This is a process that has not yet begun, the decision has not yet been made,” explains the expert.
Svitan believes that the further development of the situation with the bridgeheads will depend on the reaction of the Russian command to what is happening. The Russians can stop their attack on Avdeevka and transfer several corps to Kherson. If this does not happen, the expansion of the bridgehead may continue until the movement towards Skadovsk and Armyansk begins, Svitan believes.
“If you move through Skadovsk along the Black Sea coast, it is possible to enter Crimea in two or three ways - an amphibious assault, or move along the sea to Armyansk. But such a movement will depend on the availability of reserves, otherwise the Russians can regroup and push us beyond the Dnieper.” , says the expert.
