Currently, at border checkpoints blocked due to protests by Polish carriers, about 3 thousand cargo trucks are standing in queues. Did this situation affect the movement of passenger transport across the border and what is the general situation with passenger traffic at the border, the head of the State Border Service Andrei Demchenko said in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
Thus, he recalled that participants in the protest in Poland, even before it began, noted that they would not block traffic for buses and passenger vehicles - their actions were aimed exclusively at freight transportation.
“Since November 6, when this began, it has been noted that the intensity of traffic of buses and cars occurs both to leave Poland and to enter. The queues from Ukraine have not grown,” he emphasized.
Talking about the general situation with passenger traffic at the border, Demchenko said that now on average 75 thousand people cross the border per day in both directions - to leave Ukraine and to enter, of which 85% are citizens of Ukraine.
“On weekends, the average daily crossing can sometimes reach 90 thousand, but these figures are significantly lower than in the summer. Since then, we have noted a gradual decrease in passenger traffic, which in the summer remained at 90 thousand people on weekdays; on weekends it could reach 120 thousand ", noted the head of the State Border Guard Service.
At the same time, he warned that an increase in passenger traffic is predicted for the New Year and Christmas period. The number of border crossings may reach a certain peak, as in the summer, but this will not last as long as in the summer.
Demchenko also added that during the entire period of martial law, more than 50% of the total passenger traffic occurred on the border with Poland. On sections with other countries, the congestion is much less.
