Ukraine has unveiled a significant initiative, introducing the National Corpus of Crimean Tatar Language. According to the Ministry for Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories, this corpus is a vital step towards revitalizing a language spoken by only 20-25% of Crimean Tatars residing in Ukraine.

The initiative addresses the decline in native speakers and aims to implement systematic solutions to alter this situation. The linguistic corpus is one such solution presented as a comprehensive tool for language research and as a foundation for integrating Crimean Tatar into operating systems, online translators, and spelling checkers.

This corpus serves as a practical instrument not only for linguists and students but also for developers venturing into projects that involve the Crimean Tatar language. It is envisaged to facilitate the creation of systems and projects centered around its usage.

The development of the National Corpus involved the analysis of over 900 materials, including literary works, scientific literature, and periodicals, constituting an extensive endeavor spanning a year. The collaborative effort engaged approximately 30 participants from various regions of Ukraine and beyond.

The project's realization came through the collaboration of the QIRI'M Young civic organization, supported by programs like EGAP, the President of Ukraine's Representation in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the Ministry for Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories, and the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

The initiative, initiated in October of the previous year, intends to broaden the usage of the Crimean Tatar language, ensuring its research and sustainable development.
