President's Arrival and Agenda

This morning, on November 25, President of Switzerland Alain Berset arrived in Ukraine's capital, Kyiv. He is set to meet with Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky.

Berset announced his arrival via Twitter, sharing a photo from Kyiv's railway station. He mentioned his participation in an international summit on food security today.

"The primary focus is on the impact of Russia's aggressive war on global food security and Switzerland's long-term support for Ukraine," Berset wrote.

Switzerland's Stance on Providing Arms to Ukraine

Switzerland, a neutral state outside the EU and NATO, has staunchly refused to provide arms to Ukraine against Russian aggression. The country also prohibited other nations from transferring previously purchased Swiss arms to Ukraine.

Alain Berset, assuming the Swiss presidency on January 1 of this year, stated in March that Swiss weaponry should not be involved in the conflict in Ukraine. According to Berset, his country's policy is rooted in "a commitment to peace, humanitarian law, and mediation where possible."

In April, Berset reiterated that Switzerland would not compromise its laws of neutrality for supplying arms to Ukraine.
