During her recent visit to Ukraine, Vice President Vera Jourova commended the country's efforts in combating corruption. She highlighted the transformation from the "old Ukraine" in 2017 to the current pursuit of a new system and well-functioning institutions that investigate corruption at all levels. Jourova acknowledged the Ukrainian people's desire for change and stressed the importance of sustaining and stabilizing the anti-corruption system.
She conveyed a message to Brussels and EU member states, affirming that Ukraine is committed to strengthening the fight against corruption. Jourova met with key figures, including the heads of the Prosecutor General's Office, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, Prime Minister Denis Shmygal, Deputy Prime Ministers Olga Stefanyshyna and Mykhailo Fedor, and Justice Minister Denys Maliuska, as well as representatives of civil society.
The Vice President concluded her statement by recognizing the ongoing work required to ensure the stability of the anti-corruption system. Despite the challenges ahead, she expressed her astonishment at the progress made and the determination of the Ukrainian government and its people in the fight against corruption.
